VRD hangs on Tivo-originated MPG

I have a five-year old TiVo S2 file, converted to .mpg by kmttg, which I'm trying to edit with the current version of VRD 5. Playback hangs 48 seconds in. (I have shared the file here.) FWIW, a similar MPG conversion from another recording done in the same month is processed fine by VRD.

Here's the MediaInfo from the good file:

What's my first step to debug this issue? Thanks.

Have you tried just running it through Quick Stream Fix first, then editing the fixed version. TiVo files don't always have the best muxing so QSF can usually take care of these kinds of issues.

Thanks for the suggestion. QSF throws an "Mpeg stream error: Audio Ring Buffer overflow" error.

When you open the file in VideoReDo check Tools->Show Program Info. Does the information there match what you get from MediaInfo? Sometimes it can detect the wrong audio type and think the audio is AAC instead of MP2. Or it can pick up the wrong sample rate which can cause that error as well.

If it is the same as MediaInfo then it could just be a buffer issue. Try increasing the buffer sizes in Tools->Options->Stream parameters and see if that helps.

Increasing the number of buffers enabled VRD to perform its Quick Stream Fix without error. Loading the fixed file and checking random timecodes, I can hear audio every time. Thanks for your help!

Cool, glad you got it sorted.
