VMR9 and EVR errors

Ref: VRD5 v5.4.84.771
Win7 Pro x64

Above version has been working fine, but since yesterday I've tried to load various video files (MP4, MKV, TS, etc.) and get this error: "Unable to initialize the video display. Please check VideoReDo.log." Driver has always been VMR9, but EVR gives the same result. VMR7 loads the file but display is not correct (3 distorted images) and disabling shows none at all. Here is a series of log entries from today showing results from the three drivers I have available. Note that all other video programs I have (Handbrake, TME1, VLC, etc.) all work fine. Tried files on three different drives, numerous files, and disabled YUV acceleration with the same result. Any ideas?

With Windows 7 you should be good with the VMR9 driver with or without acceleration. Try rebooting the system and see if VMR9 works again. Since VMR9 worked for a long time something has changed, either another application is locking the video driver or there was an update to your video driver. You can also try the V6 beta and see if the new Direct3D11 works better.

I rebooted twice, once as a shutdown and another a shutdown plus power off for 30 sec. Same problem. I have weekly clones of my C: drive going back two months and could replace the VMR9 driver with one from several weeks ago if I knew the location and name of the driver. Could not find that info anywhere. Didn't mention earlier that after getting the error I uninstalled 771 and downloaded 771a and reinstalled (shows 771 in About section). I had a problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader (MSVCP140.DLL error upon startup of Win7) earlier in the day. Uninstalled and reinstalled which fixed that problem. I then discovered the VRD issue, but the two may not be related since I hadn't used VRD since 4/3/19.

Sounds like a video driver issue. Did you just install a new driver? Or did Windows Update? I'd check with the maker of your video card and see if they have a better driver.

Update: Downloaded and installed latest video drivers from the Intel site. VRD now works fine in VMR9. Problem solved, so it was the driver(s) after all. I'm stumped as to why the old drivers failed suddenly after working fine for years, but also happy all is well again. I would not have thought the drivers were at fault, but trying an upgrade seemed like easy first step.

Windows might have done and update and messed things up with the old driver.

Yeah I've had Windows updates cause issues with drivers, and occasionally Windows update will even install it's own drivers overwriting the ones from the manufacturer.
