yesterday i wanted to make a best-of-clips dvds and couldn't rip one certain dvd.

i upgraded to dvddecrypter 3.5.0.0. then i found the following in the log:

* possible structure protection found
* 4 areas marked as "suspect"
* will insert dummy data

i could read out the dvd with dvddecrypter then.

seems there are now damaged data on dvds like they are on cds. does anyone know if they comply with the dvd standard? these dummy data are in the vob files now as well.

i tried to cut out these dummy sectors with videoredo but get a A52Decode Error.

i'd like to remove these damaged "dummy" data, but currently it's not possible. anyone knows a solution to this?

Harry, can you upload a clip from the offending section? Would like to see what we can do to handle the error more gracefully.

hi Dan,

did it already in the morning. first 50 mb. should be sufficient, as powerdvd plays a part of it.

kind regards
Harry

You got to tell me when you upload something :) Don't normally check the upload site unless I get an email or a msg board posting.

Harry, What am I looking for here? VRD plays the 50 MB file, but the screen is all black, no audio and lots of A52Decode errors. My software DVD players show the same, all black, no audio, but no errors reported.

How would you like this type of file handled?

hi Dan,

near the end of the file the video starts, rest is dummy sectors. videoredo displays it. also audio starts, but it's only commentary of the movie. powerdvd plays it as well. it starts at about 3 minutes.

but i cannot cut out anything. dunno if this is worth to be supported. maybe if you find the time you can implement an auto-cut of illegal data function or sth like it.

it's not that much important for me, i just thought maybe you are interested in taking a look at vobs and enhance videoredo for this.

regards
Harry

just asking, Dan: will you go deeper into the "dummy sectors" or "damaged vob" topic or will you drop it?

We are trying to get a release out ASAP so this issue will have to wait until after that. Probably later in Sept.

DVD Decrypter

I have not run into any DVD's yet with this copy protection, but on the DVD Decrypter site it memtions under Version 3.5.0.0 "Ignore this version, get the new one instead! " and does not list why. Have you tried the new version? (Current version: 3.5.1.0 Released: 2nd September 2004)
