Video Ring Buffer Overflow

My MediaSonic PVR often seems to corrupt the first few frames of my recoding. The video will play with the seeking disabled. Attempting a Quick Stream Fix in v5 results in either a crash, a tiny output file, or a "Video Ring Buffer Overflow" message.

Using Trim & Copy to cut a few frames from the beginning will repair the video even though the dialog box does nothing expect display "(Not Responding)" in the title bar. Is there supposed to be some kind of progress indicator here?

Has anyone else experienced this?

I attached my log file.

Try increasing the value for "Mbytes to scan at file open" in Tools->Options->Stream Parameters.

No Trim & Copy does not have progress. Most people use it to grab a small sample to upload to support, so the process is instant.

Ok, just a shot. Thought maybe it would pick up different parameters if it read past the errors.

Maybe it's a problem with my PVR? I don't know. But my almost daily routine is: open file in VRD > crash (not responding) > kill process > use Trim & Copy to remove 10 MB from beginning of file > open new file in VRD and edit successfully.

Hi

Most but not everyone. I would like to see some progress bar, because sometimes I have to split my original files before editing. On some files VRD doesn't cut precisely, when cut point is beyond 2, 3 or 4 hours from start of the recording. It depends on from which channel original recording has recorded. After cutting resulting files are shorter and VRD cuts them very well.

It would be nice to add the Add to batch option for those RAW cuttings.

Can you upload a small sample to us so we can see what's causing the crash. If the file is corrupt then it may not open, but it shouldn't crash.

I uploaded a 100 MB sample from today's recording. VRD doesn't respond when I try to open it and I have to kill the process.

If you use Trim & Copy to remove 1 MB from the beginning the file, it can then be opened in VRD without issues.

I thought my files were crashing Trim & Copy for the longest time because this is all I see while it's working: vrd-tc.jpg

Out of frustration, I left it alone one day and discovered it did, in fact, work.

It's a good idea, of course. We should have done it years ago except that (a) the original purpose of this feature was ONLY to create short videos for uploading to our support folks, and (b) it's been a low priority.

I've added your request to our "to do" list.

Thank you. This really is useful feature and could even be used as a selling point. There are plenty of people looking without success for a good way to repair corrupted mts files. I was one of them and I discovered VRD's Trim & Copy can do the job perfectly. Nothing else I tried would work. It was a major reason why I bought a license.

the video ring buffer overflow...
I added a video...vob file, tried to sAVE as mpg, and it crashes as it starts to create the mpg, with that error message.
I tried your suggestion above about increasing the initial size of what the program looks at in the file...

Did you try running Tools>QuickStream fix on that VOB first and/or using File>Open>DVD?
