v828a video file open issues

Just downloaded the new v828a beta on the weekend and had problems opening .ts files generated by HDHomerun. At first I thought it may be a bad file but it happened with multiple program feeds. I switched back to v827a and had no issues opening the same files. I didn't have a whole lot of time to troubleshoot so I don't have any logs or screenshots (or even the error message) but all I did was to install the older version over the beta and things were working fine again.

Just posting to see if anyone else has seen similar issues with the new beta.

Can you upload a sample of one of these files so we can test it on our end?

Sorry, I already downgraded back to the older version and processed the files. I'll try to upgrade and try again with other files when I get a chance. I just wanted to get a bit of visibility in case anyone else saw a similar issue.

I have uploaded an H.264 .ts file I that I can open fine in Videoredo 5 and most other software but which Videoredo 6 refuses to open.
File "20210210_2017_-_55315_-_INSTANT_RECORD.ts" has been uploaded.
email sent to support@videoredo.com too.

Had the problem again today with v829a. Couldn't load a file on a network share. File plays back fine across the network in media player and also works fine in v.827. Looked in the logs and it didn't even show that it was trying to load the file. Attaching a screen shot. Sorry, I edited the file in .827 and then deleted it (running out of disk space for HDHomerun). If you still need an example, I'll try to upgrade and upload a file.

(edit) Just went back and reinstalled v829a. I can't open any files on the network share. It does seem as though I can open up local files. Here are the log entries since reinstalling,

It is definitely trying to open the file. The log entries aren't strictly in order because some come from different threads. But it is definitely attempting to open it.

Nothing in our code specifically cares where the file is stored. We don't treat files from the network any different that files from the local disk. Everything is opened and read 100% using standard Windows routines. In fact in the case of .tivo files we use the TiVo DirectShow filter to open the file and simply read the bits from it, so 100% of the file I/O is handled by the TiVo filter and not VideoRedo. This is most likely a speed issue. When we open a file we have seek around in the file to determine the length and look for stream changes. If the connection isn't fast enough to handle that then it can fail and VRD will be unable to open the file. It's possible there was a change in the newest version that effected how exactly the seeking is done, we make minor changes like that all the time, but if the same file works fine from the local disk and only fails when read over the network then there really isn't anything we can do.

Also it appears from your screen shot you're running on a Mac. Is that via virtualization or a remote desktop connection? Virtualization can slow down the process a lot as well so that could also be the issue. Especially if there is some weird network bridging happening between the host OS, the VM and the NAS you're getting the file from.

Everything works great with the previous version of software. As soon as I downgrade I am able to access the file. And I am able to play back the files directly off the server on the machine running windows. Note that I am using Windows Remote Desktop to connect into the MacMini running Bootcamp, not a VM so the networking Is direct using the Windows networking connections. If I go directly to the actual VRD machine, I get the same result. The only issue could be if the Windows drivers for the Mac hardware are causing problems but I have no other networking issues..The screen shot that I sent was from RD because it is the way that I usually access the machine I use for VRD.

It's a very weird issue, not sure if it is a permissions thing or what, but it seems strange that downgrading to an older version would work.

Maybe it's something we changed in 829. Can you upload the file to support so we can check it out here?

If you copy the source file to your local dirve can you open it in build 829? There was a change in the file open in 829, but should have limited to improved support for certain H264 files as reported up above on this thread by user bdg2.

Ok, apologies. I sat down today and took a look. It is not all files, it appears to be any shows recorded on broadcast channels on a SiliconDust Prime. Cable channels appear to be fine, but broadcast programs won't open. I also tried copying it locally and it still did not work, so it is not a remote mount issue.

I have uploaded a copy of today's NBC News program that will not open.
