Release Build 731a has been posted.

We've changed the status of the beta build to be an official release.

Thanks to everyone who has participated in this beta. Should be starting a new set of beta releases in the next week or two.

Pro users: There's only one minor change between the last beta, 730b, and the release build. We have some other changes that are going into VRD Pro over the next few weeks and will be releasing a new VRD Pro version in early to mid-June.

Beta Build 732f has been posted.

1. Support for video only files (no audio stream). Works for MP4, MKV, and other files that use the ffMpeg demuxer. Not supported for .mpg, .ts, or .wtv. VRD simulates audio by automatically inserting a silent stereo PCM stream which will be included in the the saved file. You should consider setting the audio output codec to MP2 or AAC to reduce the saved file size.

2. Updated to latest version of ffMpeg for additional file support and bug fixes especially with non-native (MPEG2, H.264) streams. An interesting side effect, try opening a .txt file in VRD :)

3. Improved 608/708 (North American) caption support in 720p files.

4. Improved interlacing when converting 720p to 1080i. Motion should be much smoother.

5. Added 608/708 caption copying when using Intel Quick Sync encoder.

6. See release notes above for all changes and fixes.

Important note for Pro users only!, The license manager version has been upgraded and uses a new license file format. Please contact us at support to get updated serial numbers and activation keys. We are working on a mechanism to transfer the license keys from the previous manager to the new one, but it's not yet working. This temporary key will activate Pro for 2 weeks: vcITa-2d1TD-cZ4FX-DWjau-8eq2M-1On41

Beta Build 733d has been posted:

1. Major improvements to H.264 internal buffer management. Playback should be smoother when playing long GOP and/or high bit rate H.264 files. Less need to change default buffer sizes as both audio and video buffers attempt to grow dynamically.

2. Fixed major memory leak from 732 when reading MP4/MKV files.

3. Fixed problem when the last from of a GOP was an I-frame, and next GOP started with an IDR frame.

4. .rec and .trp files will now sort to top of vlist rather than bottom.

Beta Build 736e has been posted:

1. Major change when there are multiple audio streams. In all previous versions (dating back to VRD Plus), when you switched audio streams using Tools>Select stream, the file would re-open. Starting in this version, you can change the primary audio stream from the Tools menu. The file will NOT be closed and re-opened and the change to the new stream will be immediate.

2. Seeking and playback on H264 files with long gops should be much faster. For playback, when the end of a GOP was reached, we would read the entire next GOP before continuing playback. Now we will read a frame at a time during playback, making playback much smoother. Also, if the playback slows up, we will drop frames to maintain audio sync. In previous versions, the "drop frame" setting was not reset until you did a seek. Starting in this version, it will automatically reset if system catches up. For seeking we did additional optimizing to handle long GOPs. However, don't expect miracles. If you're seeking to the last frame in a 10 second GOP @ 50 fps, we still need to decode 499 frames to display the desired frame.

3. MP4/MKV output. Occasional failures during saving to these formats due to invalid DTS/PTS relationship. The output logic has been totally re-written to adjust the DTS values dynamically if necessary.

4. Creating DVDs from 44.1Khz audio sources could lead to hangs during output depending on the location of the cuts. Audio encoders have been re-written to better handle audio re-sampling when there are multiple cuts.

There are also a number of VRDPro only changes. This is a recommended update for PRO users. Pro users can now save to MXF files (OP1A).

Beta build 738f has been posted:

1. Fixed a problem with output audio stream selection, broken in 737.

2. Fixed rare extra frame in output file, when running in cut mode.

See release notes above for complete list.

A couple users have mentioned that 737 was dropping subtitles on file open. While we didn't specifically find the issue, we did make some internal changes to better track what's going on and, at least on the the test samples, now show all the subtitle streams.

We've been working with some users, one on one, with improvements to the H.264 smart cutting engine. Those changes are NOT in this beta.
