  1. The H.264 cutting engine has been totally re-written, and should perform much better. It can be a bit slow, but I think you'll find the quality of the cuts to be excellent. Obviously we want to hear back from you should you have any issues. If, for some reason, the new cutting engine doesn't work correctly, you can revert to the Version 4 cutting engine, by holding the shift and clicking on Tools>Options and changing the setting for #51, H.264 Smart Cutting Engine.
  2. Batch has been completely re-written as well. You can now add or edit items to the batch queue while encoding or Ad-Detective scans are in progress. On feature I like is the ability to drag a file from the completed batch window back into VideoReDo, or any other application, for editing or viewing.
  3. Documentation, we have not yet updated the help files. This will be coming soon. For COM users, there is a new API, although the old API is still supported for the time being. You can see examples of the updated COM calls in our supplied scripts (*.vbs) that are installed with the application.
  4. Audio completion: After 10 years, we are retiring the Fan Fare sound you hear when a save is completed. If you're nostalgic for the old sound, go to Tools>Options>Completion Alerts and select the "Audio\FanFare3.wav" file.
  5. Lots of other video formats are supported, so please share your experiences with us here.

I recommend subscribing to this thread to receive email notifications when new betas are posted.

Beta Build 707h has been posted.

  1. 4K (3840 x 2160) H.264 is now supported. It's still in testing so please turn on "shift+Tools>Options>Manual # 53" to allow for 4K output. Feedback appreciated,

  2. You can globally change the default encoder to QuickSync via a check box on the Tools>Options>Stream page. The encoder selection drop down on the profile / options page, now has 3 options: "default, QS, and Software" (previous version just had 2 options, Default and QS).

  3. New Version 5 H.264 cutting engine should work on XP. (this one for you MrV).

  4. H.264 ES muxing fixes when audio is longer than video (another for you MrV).
Lots of other changes and fixes, so please see release notes above.

Beta Build 709e has been posted.

  1. IMPORTANT: This version requires you to re-install your key or run upgrade the wizard again. We are testing the automatic upgrade process, and for the purposes of this beta, all registered V4 users will be able to run the beta upgrade, without charge. Please see this page for what the upgrade process should look like:
  2. This version supports trial keys. The trial key process has been changed from all earlier releases, all the way back to VideoReDo Version 1. The trial keys are now requested from an in-application web page. No more email required. If you need a trial key emailed to you, please email us at support.
  3. DVD authoring lets you set the encoder type, default, QuickSync, or software from the video projects page. Remember, the Quick Sync encoder does not support dual pass encoding so best quality DVDs at low bit rates will best be served by the two-pass software encoder.
  4. Please see the release notes above for additional information of this release.
  5. We hope this is the last build of the beta period and we can put the product on sale for upgrades within a week.

Thanks to everyone who has participated in this beta program. We really appreciate your assistance.

Beta Build 710e has been posted.

  1. Option to retain custom theme at installation.
  2. Bug introduced in 709e would abort MP4/MKV files if H.264 profile was baseline or main. Did not affect High profile. Use Tools>Show Program Info to determine a file's profile.
  3. Fix for multiple titles when saving an H.264 file from the joiner.
  4. See release notes above for complete list.

Beta Build 711c has been posted.

1) H.264 buffer sizes will automatically increase at file open to insure smoother playback. Only the first couple GOPs are checked so you still may need manually bump buffer sizes on the Tools>Options>Stream page if playback stutters.

2) Fixed resyncing logic when 2nd audio stream disappears or starts later than the primary stream.

3) Fixed 4K cutting crash when the bit rate was so high that the compressed frames were greater than 1 MB in size. Specifically for GoPro 4K sample.

Please see release notes above for complete list.

I'm truly hoping that this is the last beta before we go to release. Thanks to everyone who has participated.

Beta Build 715b has been posted:

This beta will become the public release in a couple of days. All of here at VideoReDo want to thank everyone who gave such valuable feedback during this long beta period. We really appreciate all of your comments. This is a great user community and it's your feedback and insights that has made the product as rich as is is today. We started this beta in June, hoping to have it released by late July or early August. So much for schedules :)

Anyone interested in assisting in translations please let us know. We could especially use an update to our German and French translations.

Beta Build 718b has been posted:

1. Should fix the H.264 encoding / cutting issues some users had with the 717 MC libraries. Let us know if you still have any issues. We wanted to make 717 a full release, but held off until we could find the source of crashes / file won't open errors.

Please see release notes for list of changes.

1. Another fix for the H.264 smart edit crash that started with build 717.

Beta build 720b has been posted:

1. Fix for graph abort when recording directly to H.264 MP4/MKV files.

2. COM registration has been changed. All previous versions, dating back to Version 1 of VRD, would attempt to re-register COM keys each time program was started. Starting with Vista this would fail unless run as admin/elevated user, leaving things unchanged. Starting with this beta, COM will only register/re-register when VRD is started with "/register" on the command line. This is done automatically on installation or by batch if it detects that the version of VRD doesn't match Batch's version. The bottom is there will be slightly less overhead run starting VideoReDo and less chance to mess up the COM registry keys if you should start as an elevated users.

Pro users who want the beta, please send an email to support.

Beta build 722b has been posted:

1. New multi-threaded resizer. While substantially faster than previous builds only has a 10% improvement in output speed as the previous resizer wasn't critical to the output speed. If you have problems with the resizer you can revert to the old one by going to shift+Tools>Options and changing: 36. Number of threads to use when resizing: (change to 0 to disable new resizer).

2. New optimized code for smart de-interlacer. Should improve output speed 15% to 40% when deinterlacing.

3. The frame rate changer in the output profiles / save options is now enabled to change the output frame rate. Not yet enabled for DVDs (that is coming), and NTSC/ATSC captions are lost during these changes. Also, frame rate changes will trigger a recode.

4. Fixed a number of memory leaks especially open MP4/MKV opens and saves. This should improve stability when opening and closing a lot of files.

Please see release notes for specific changes.

Beta Build 727h has been posted.

1. UHD support for 3,840 x 2,160 is now enabled by default. 4,096 x 2,160 can be enabled using the Shift+Tools>Options, # 55. Important: To use intelligent recording, @ 4096x2160 set the profile resolution to "SAS" (same as source).

2. MP4 tx3g captions, will now be displayed and saved.

3. Option to remove the "queue to batch" confirm window.

4. Normalization has been totally re-written. In prior versions if you were normalizing and downmixing at the same time, i.e. 5.1 > 2.0, the normalization would be done on the 5.1 stream, but the mix down would reduce the volume. Now the normalization will be done on the mixed-down stream.

5. Tivo reader has been changed to hopefully remove the "hangs" at exit when corruption is encountered in the Tivo source file.
