Yes, I can load the .vprj file created by ComSkip into VRD. The .vprj file is located in the Output Folder.

Here's a link to the .vprj file.

You can also view the log file at the following link:
http://cid-08ee6c51831cc2e1.office.live.com/self.aspx/TVAP%20Errors/TiVoVRDAutoProcessLog.txt

I've also created screenshots of what occurs after I receive the error. The Error 1 file provides a screenshot of the actual error. The Error 2 file shows the updated log of the TVAP GUI when I select OK on the error message. The Error 3 file provides a screenshot of the .vprj file manually opened in VRD.

Please note that I am pleased with the results of the AdScan w/o ComSkip and no longer wish to pursue resolving the problem with VRD and ComSkip. I provided the above information to assist with resolving the issue for other users of the program who may also be encountering this error. I am willing to further troubleshoot this issue if requested.

Thanks again for your assistance.

But when this error occurs you can load the .vprj file created by Comskip into VRD? Is the .vprj file in the TiVo Transfers or QSF temp folder? Please post a copy of it, or at least the first 10 lines, and let me know what your TiVo Transfer, QSF temp and output folders are. Also, please post the last ten lines of the log file just before such an error. A screen shot when the error occurs would be helpful also.

I'm glad you have satisfactory operation and thanks for the downloads. I'm puzzled by one thing however:

In the text items you provided (i.e. the .vprj file and the TVAP log) your name in file paths is replaced by "%userprofile%" while in the image items (screen shots) your name is used. Did you edit the text items to hide your name? If not I think we have a clue to the problem, since the use of command line substitution variables (%userprofile%) is not intended behavior of TVAP. When I echo %userprofile% in a command window, I get "C:\Users\Dave", i.e., it includes the "C:\Users" plus my user name. The text examples you furnished thus would have "c:\Users" repeated twice -- you must have edited these in!

One difference between your setup and mine is you have your TVAP folders in your Documents folder. Given the foibles of Win7 (I have Win7 Pro 64bit) I thought that might make a difference. So I tested your same process flow with my TempQSF and Output folders located in my documents folder in a TVAP subfolder like yours. It ran fine on a 4 GB input and I didn't get any "%userprofile%" in the paths in either the .vprj or the log file.

Also your first error message is from VideoReDo and says "Unable to Initialize Video Display, Check the VideoReDo log". That doesn't sound like a TVAP or ComSkip problem. What does the VRD log say when that happens?
I found another thread on this problem, although it isn't very conclusive: http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/showthread.php?p=71027#post71027

I modified the file paths in the .vprj file and the TVAP log file to exclude my name. I guess I forgot about the screen shots. So the error message should not be a result of the modified file paths.

Notice the edits I just did in my previous post -- while you were posting. :) DanR's last post needs some clarification:

He means the Tools-->Options-->Display Devices page and try a different Video Driver.

I started receiving the error with the AdScans w/o ComSkip. However, after I selected Ok to the error message VAP (started using VAP per your recommendation) would continue the auto-cuts and output the completed file.

As you suggested I have changed the Video Driver from VMR9 to VMR7. I have also start using ComSkip again. For the moment it appears that the video driver solution is working. I've only transferred 3 files since I've changed the driver but I have not received the error since.

I have been using TVAP successfully for years on Vista 64 but upgraded to Win 7 64 and everything fell apart. Uninstalled everything (Tivo, Tivo Plus, Tivo Cleanup, VideoReDo Plus, TVAP) and still can not get TVAP (any version) to run after install. I install and run as an admin but it fails with "WindowsApplication1 stopped working".

I have tried a number of versions of Tivo Desktop up to 2.8.2, VideoReDo and TVAP.

I noticed that .NET is version 4. Do I need to install an earlier version? Did I unstall something that I need?

Ideas? Thanks

I tried to install .net 2.0 but it would not install on Win 7. Installed .net 3.5 SP1 which includes everything. But the problem still exists.

I'm running and developing on a Win7 64bit OS now too. I never really wondered about .NET versions since I never had any related problems.
When I look in Contol Panel Programs all I see is a ".NET Framework 4 Client Profile". (On WinXP, all the different installed versions of .NET would show here.)

There is a file called TestVBS.vbs in the installation folder for TVAP. Double click it to run it. It displays message boxes. First it displays the version of VRD (click OK). After a delay it will show the version(s) of .NET it finds, each in a separate box, then a final box saying the script is done running.

When I run this on my Win7 computer it displays ONLY version 4 of .NET.

Thus I don't think .NET version is the issue in your case.

Actually you shouldn't have to run TVAP as admin. Are you running on an admin login? That shouldn't be necessary either. I devoted some effort and testing on my machine to achieve this.

Open a command window and type
echo %appdata%
This should display a folder, probably ending with "Roaming".

TVAP uses a sub-folder of that folder (TVAP subfolder) for all its data. Do you see any files there?

You are using the most recent version of TVAP, correct? Earlier versions will have problems on Win7.

You should be sure to run VRD once as admin after you install it. This could be your problem with TVAP. (This is noted at the top of the documentation.)

I agree with you on the .NET 4 Only displays and should include the old versions. I did enable 3.5Sp1 which is the approved back install on Win 7. Could not run TestVBS; I got a script error when I tried to run TestVBS. "Could not create object named VideoReDo.VideoReDoSilent" Code 800702E4

Using ReDo Plus version 3.10.2 596 and 0.92 but have also tried a few other versions along the way. The folder in Roaming has four files: ArgLog, stopper, TivoFileManager and TivoVRDAutoProcessLog. The log shows:
. . . .
11/13/2010 10:44:11 AM Only new log events will be displayed.
11/13/2010 10:44:11 AM All log events will still accumulate in the log file
11/13/2010 10:44:11 AM Started program -- TiVo-VideoReDo-AutoProcessor - Ver. 0.92
11/13/2010 10:44:11 AM VRD install folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoReDoPlus\

Thats when it fails.

The TivoFileManager XML looks wrong. It shows old directories that no longer exist as I was trying to get TivoDesktop running again after the upgrade. I am going to uninstall Plus and TVAP and start over one more time. Let you know.

Success!! I recreated the old and missing folders per the TiVoFileManager file and TVAP was once again was able to start. I suspect that TVAP was off while I was playing with TiVo and it lost the folders in the shuffle.

Thanks.

Great! You can force TVAP to completely re-initialize by deleting the TiVoFileManager.xml file (with TVAP not running). Then restart.

Success was too strong a conclusion. I now can run TVAP fine. But when I run QSF and Ad Scan I get a valid project file pointed at the valid QSF MPEG but the resulting TiVo file is not playable? If I point it at the original TiVo file it edits fine.

Using TivoDesktop verson 2.8.1 Is there a setup problem?

What version of VRD?
Is TVAP configured for Autocut after adscans?
Are you using ComSkip?
Is your input file a .TiVo file?
What output profile or type are you selecting? Sounds like you are outputting TiVo, correct?
The resulting TiVo file is not playable in what software or device?

Run your process manually just using VRD (No TVAP). What happens then?

TVAP version 0.92, VRD 3.10.2.596, No Autocut after adscans, No ComSkip. Output Type = TiVo. Result in not playable from Window Media Player.

Looking to input a Tivo file, scan for commercials, validate scan manually, remover commercials and output an edited TiVo file.

Starting with TiVo files freshly downloaded using TiVoDesktop 2.8.1. Downloaded file plays fine and can be edited with VRD; edited TiVo output without commercials plays fine if we do not use the QSF file.

The TVAP log says "Transfered metadata to . . . " where the file is correct xxxx.tivo configured on a different drive than the source file. Windows Media Player says "cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

Ok I've duplicated this behavior.

For the 2-step process flow (QSF then AdScan) TVAP uses an MPEG2 (.mpg) file as the intermediate temp (QSF'ed) file. This can't contain metadata. Thus when it processes that as input to create a .TiVo output file, there is no metadata for VRD to include. Also, there is no way for VAP to insert metadata into .TiVo files (despite its incorrect message). Thus you end up with an invalid .TiVo file that has no metadata and (apparently, de facto) will not play in WMP.

A workaround is to just skip the QSF step.

VAP, which is replacing TVAP, also has the same issue for 2-step with tivo input and output.

Note in the lastest build of TVS4, .TiVo outputs are only allowed if the input file is .TiVo. This is because the only way VRD can create a proper .TiVo with metadata is to copy the metadata from an input tivo file.

If being able to QSF is a major issue for you I can modify VAP so it will use a .TiVo temp intermediate (QSF'ed) file for the 2-step process with tivo inputs/outputs. But I will only do this for VAP -- not TVAP -- as development of TVAP has ended (and VAP can do anything TVAP could do).

I understand. I have found TVAP to be very very good and extremely useful. I only changed to the 0.92 version when I started having issues after upgrading to Win 7 and the latest version of the TivoDesktop using the three work files. Previous versions of TVAP, using the .QSF intermediate output worked fine. QSF process step is useful in reducing errors but not manditory. If I understand correctly, outputing the MPEG2 is useful with ComSkip and is more versital. But maybe the option to use the old output format would be useful and easiest for the TiVo people. Else it might be possible and necessay to create a work file up front to carry the metadata and transfer from the work file to the final TiVo end product after edits?

Sounds like I should start using VAP rather than TVAP. I never quite understood that it did everything that TVAP did since I tend to focus on the TiVo sources more than others.

BTW, does VAP convert TiVO to MEPG4 for use on the iPad? I use TiVo Desktop Plus now.

Thanks for the help.

I've modified VAP to use the .tivo temp(QSF) file when the input is .tivo and the desired output is .tivo. Right now it's a test executable (VAP063T2 attached.)

Install setupVAP062, then substitute the attached executable.

Converting any input to iPad-compatible MPEG4 is just a matter of using the right output profile in TVS4. I'm sure it can be done but don't know offhand whether a profile to do it has already been generated. VAP will automate it.

About saving TiVo files with VRD

**this thread** tells the story -- particularly note post #6.

vincekg has confirmed that VAP test version VAP063T2 properly handles tivo files so that mod will be in a new release of VAP very soon.
