suddenly does not open TIVO files

this morning I tried opening a Tivo file and got the warning to make sure Tivo Desktop is installed and the correct MAK is used.
Both are as VIdeoRedo worked the day before.

Tivo Desktop problem, I checked and the MAK is valid. Tivo Desktop is running.

after further investigation:
I believe this is Tivo Desktop's problem
I uninstalled TD and reinstalled
now there is no place to enter my MAK
TD doesn't recognize Video media now
the Tivo EDGE box is recognized
this is not unexpected, as TIVO has abandoned TD
it's been working in Window 11 up until now as I upgraded from 10 and TD was in place

Download these two apps and put them in the same folder…

This is a CLI app that can be used to read and change the encrypted MAK stored in the registry and used by the TiVo DirectShow filter to decrypt .tivo files

Unzip contents to the same folder as tivomak.exe. If you're a pyTivo Desktop user this will be located in install folder fin the "dshow" sub-directory.

run the GUI app and enter your MAK. That should fix the issue.

If it doesn’t then you may want to consider uninstalling TiVo Desktop and installed pyTivo Desktop instead…

during installation make sure to check the box that installs the DirectShow filter.

An update to the above problem.

I used the two apps Dan suggested and the "GUI" ran successfully.
Tivo Desktop, I am guessing, has been limited to MUSIC and Pictures only, no video.
I uninstalled Tivo Desktop and reinstalled and have NO ability to enter a MAK.
The apps suggested in Dan's reply may have fixed this re: Video Redo.
Tivo Desktop does recognize my TIVO but does not recognize any recordings.

what I was originally doing was attempting to open a PBS recording.
I kept testing that one file due to the error stating I should check Tivo Desktop is installed or the MAK is valid.
and checking if any of my reinstalls and the Fix suggested had helped.
I kept getting the same error and still get the same error on that original file.

However, all other subsequent files open normally.

PyTivo works fine

There is something within that original file that is triggering that error.

Do you still have the recording on your TiVo? If so try downloading it again using pyTivo and see if that helps.

I have pyTivo.
It has always worked.
it is my next choice when I have a problem such as this one.
it did work with that problem file.
