Pb when estimating size of the outputted DVD

Hi all,

I just discovered the upgrade today and am very excited about it. It will really speed up for me the conversion process from a TV source (DVB-T or recorded DVD) to a burned DVD.

I just observed a small glitch : I have a 3.2 GB mpeg2 file generated by VideoRedo Plus. It comes from a VHS movie recorded on a DVD (DVD+RW). So the mpeg file is fully DVD compliant.

I input this mpeg file in TVSuite, add the whole file. Then, the expected DVD size appears to be very small, like it were only 300 MB big. I have launched the DVD VOB creation process and the size is naturally what it should be (no reencoding here), that is 3.2GB.

So just the estimation seems wrong. Not a problem that time but annoying when burning more complex DVD.

Thanks for any help on this.

When you loaded the file did the whole file import or just part of it. Maybe it needed to be run through QuickStream first.

Thanks for the reply,

I did import the whole file. And the created DVD contains the whole movie. I haven't used quickfix since it is already a VideoredoPlus output.

This has been around for a while when adding already edited complete files. (thought it had been eradicated) If you cut one frame off of the end of the file it will show up correctly in the estimated burn size as a workaround.

Most people use the authoring suite to edit and author as one process. Only a few of us collect allready edited shows and bundle them for authoring.

I suspect you are using "scene mode"? (as do I) and "add selection" to select the entire file? I have taken to adding the previously edited file in a slightly different manner. I hit "E" for "go to the end of the selection" and "Mark Out" to select the entire file. This has been showing the correct size for me without cutting the end frame off.

When you load the original file into VideoReDo, click on "Switch" in the right corner and tell me what size VideoReDo things the file is?

Hi DanR, I did use the switch button and it returns :
3386 MB both for selection and program. Duration is 01:41:21:23

Hi zaphod7501 : yes I use the scene mode. I did what you explained : load the file, go to end with E, step back just one frame, add selection and "voilà", now the create dvd menu returns the righ size. Thanks for this nice workaround !

In spite of the advice given I have found that cutting the odd frame fom the end of a file does not always work and does not work at all for a multi file DVD.
The net result is that to add more than one pre-edited file it is necessary to do the addition manually so as not to exceed the maximum DVD size.
