I have a TV program (Ice Road Truckers) that can be worked on and saved in anyway EXCEPT Quick sync which shows 2014-09-23 11:20:58 IntelVideoEncoder: Unable to initialize encoder:.

Quickstream made no difference

Log attached here. I have the file if wanted.

Looks like there is an issue with the MC encoder too. It's not failing to init, but it's getting frame errors during the encode. Can you upload that trimmed file so we can see what's going on?

I see that in the log:

Code:
2014-09-23 09:27:11 IntelVideoEncoder: Unable to query IO surfaces: -15
2014-09-23 09:27:11 Intel video encoder, Error initalizing encoder
2014-09-23 09:27:12 Output graph aborted at module: Intel video encoder, error: Error with Intel encoder initialization.
Can you upload the small sample? BTW, how did you create the "IRT trimmed test file.wtv", did you use Tools>Trim or just a normal save?

2nd tv show found does same thing. NCIS New Orleans - all are recorded via Ceton InfiniTV 6 ETH .. AS before I can save the file as long as I do not use quicksync.
if you want a piece of this let me know.

If you save a clip with VRD (not trim and copy), does QS work on the saved clip? If not, upload the clip.

Also, what's your cable company?

Clip uploaded as it does not work. Cable company is NJ - Cablevision (Optimum online). Also note that Person of interest also fails now. I did get QS to work with movies from TCM so my setup is fine.

Used to be an Optimum customer as well for 10+ years. Liked their service a lot except for the switch video thing which I could never get to work. When my last 1 year "special deal" was up, I called them and asked if they would keep my rates the same for another year. They said they couldn't, so I switched to FIOS at a huge discount to what I was paying even before the rate increase. Of course after I cancelled, Cablevision came begging promising to meet or beat FIOS's price. Told them they had their chance.

My Person Of Interest worked fine, so it must be something specific to the encoding of your cable system or another profile setting. I just used the regular H.264 MP4 profile and set the encoder to QS. Do I need to do anything more then that to duplicate?

Nope -= I've tried everything I can think of. If it was the cable company then why not all channels? It's just these certain shows that quit -= while all else works fine. I'll keep playing with the profiles - any hints I should be looking at?

In our area all channels are HD but for whatever reason windows media center looks to the 700 series channels (where avail) for HD. 2 is also broadcast on 702 etc. When I went in and recorded on 2 and then 702 - and 4 + 704, 2 and 4 worked fine with QS while the 702 and 704 failed. I will call cablevision and see what they say but don't expect a real answer.

Weird. The files opened and played OK in VRD though? Seems odd that they would throw off the QS encoder only. Although I saw weird issues in your logs about the color type of your file being wrong. Almost like they were 4:2:2 instead of 4:2:0, or there was some general decoding issue. But if it were a decoding issue you should have seen it in the UI when editing/playing the file.

Jon, are you getting HD on 2 and 4? Typically the lower channels are only mapped to HD when using a cable box. When recording directly off the cable, via the Ceton, you should be getting SD on those lower channels.

With more input from Jon, we've tracked this down to the following issue with the QS encoder:

"Width and height of the video frame in pixels; Width must be a multiple of 16. Height must be a multiple of 16 for progressive frame sequence and a multiple of 32 otherwise."

For example, resizing 1080i to 720i gives an encoder initialization error because 720 isn't a multiple of 32. However 1080i to 720p is OK because it's a multiple of 16. We will discuss how to handle this more gracefully.
