MPEG2 can't seek and odd length in other players

Hi, I'm new to using VideoRedo and trying to use it for some future MPEG repair work I'm doing..

I have a big file that I pulled from a DVR device that recorded in MPEG2. Essentially I took it from a hard drive based on the beginning of the file which indicated it was an MPEG2 stream, and saved it off.. I know...rough..

Then I ran it through VideoReDo and did a quickstream fix. The result was a long (like 27 hour) file, approx. 300gb. Now I seem to be able to play the file...but when I try to jump around to different parts, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. VideoReDo is saying it's about 27 hours, windows media player and some other plays thinks it's 16 minutes, VLC has something else...etc.

I'd like to basically get the seek to work so I can (hopefully) break up the file into smaller chunks.

Any suggestions on what I might do to make this miracle happen? :) Any suggestions are appreciated!

Basically it's saying the original file is a DVD "VOB" Format MPEG2 Program Stream (1vid/1aud), 10080 kb/s VBR)
Codec MPEG2, Audio AC3 384kb/s stereo, 720x480 4:3

Thanks
Pete

VideoReDo can edit file up to about 24 hours in length.

Since your video exceed that that the best you can do is to use Trim and Copy to split it into 2 smaller videos

Load the file through Tools>trim and copy not the regular file open method.

I would suggest using some overlap since this does not cut perfectly.

Since it about 300GB:
1st beginning to about 160GB
2nd about 140GB to end

You should have 2 stable segments afterwards.

Thanks for the tip! One issue though - I can only specify output in Megabytes...and it requires an integer from 1 to 100000. Thus, I'm not able to get over the 100gb, nor able to choose subsequent exports to output something from (for example) 100gb-200gb, 200-300gb, etc..

Let me clarify... When I go to select an export, I select "From Beginning" and have to enter a number, say 120000MB.. that's when it pops up an error saying that it needs an integer between 1 and 100000....but...in the background it starts working on the export. Maybe it's working, or maybe it's just going to 100,000... not sure as the entry still says "120000".

Try using to 100000 limit.
Make smaller segments 0-100 90-190 180-280 or whatever overlap you feel comfortable with

Pat, that's my point of confusion... without being able to load the video into the program (going straight to tools/trim-copy), how can you make segments if you can only pick segments from the file's "beginning to 100000", or "100000 to end"? Also, in my test where I'm getting the error message based on the 100000 integer limit, the system is indeed exporting 120000MB, but it errors out before and after the work is done..

only output 100000 at a time
Use from beginning
Start at MByte 90000
Start at MByte 180000
Start at MByte 270000
etc.

How do I Tell VideoReDo to start at MByte 180000? I don't have the option of where I want to start. I can open the file through the trim menu, and the only option is how many MB from the beginning...or how many MB from the end. I don't see where I can say 'give me 100000MB starting at MB 180000' like you're mentioning... There's only one integer input option, and that's the overall file length, the rest are radio button options..

p.s.Also, the export doesn't seem to fix the seeking problems...which is originally why i'm trying to split it up...

Well, both my V4 and V5 (latest) have 4 options

"Tools" >"Trim And Copy Source File".,...

1 From Beginning
2 To EndOf File
3 ***Start At MByte*** [ PLACE NUMBER HERE]
4 Use Selection Markers (grayed out as nothing loaded)

After splitting the file with T&C, process each file through QUickStream Fix.

I would suggest also using "Enable Filters" in QuickStream Fix.
Process the file through QuickStream Fix first, then load the fixed file for editing. Tools>QuickStream Fix
Check Enable Filters in QuickStream Fix and select the resolution you desire to output. If multiple resolutions are not listed, increase the number of samples. Usually a number like 128 is sufficient.
Here is a guide to assist you
