MIssing frame(s) saving as DVD?

All,

I'm using VideRedo VTS to edit commercials from a HD show transferred from my TiVo Series 3 with ultimate goal of creating a reduced resolution DVD-compliant Mpeg. Currently, I have to create the DVD files and then rejoin the VOB files with VideRedo to do this.

Everything seemed to be working great, except I just noticed that there is a discernible break at the join of the 2 VOBs. It appears that there's a missing frame or frames when the 2 VOB files are created and this seems consistent with the 4 shows that I've done this way.

Is this normal or is this a bug that needs to be fixed? Or is there something I can do to prevent this (better yet would be the version of VideoRedo that lets me save the Mpeg file directly!).

Thanks for your help!

use the combine feature for VOBs.

Since you are using TVSuite, you could use "Import title from a DVD" also.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I am using the joiner in VideoRedo to combine the VOB files. The problem though is that the missing frames are occuring between the VOB files that VideoRedo TVS is creating in the first place.

Pat,

OK, that did fix the problem! Sorry about questioning you, but it certainly appeared when I opened each VOB in VideoRedo and looked at the end of the first and the beginning of the second that there was a frame or frames missing.

How is the combine/import from DVD different than using the joiner in this case? Just curious and always interested in a chance to increase my knowledge on how DVD and video is being handled and processed.

Thanks for the help!

File like VOBs are split based upon size only.

If you join a file, the beginning of the file will be based upon the first I-frame VRD encounters. A few frames could be excluded.

Using combine will treat all of the files as one contiguous file and include the frames that would have been dropped..

Import will work like combine except that it can recognize titles of a DVD so only one title will be imported at a time rather than all of the VOBs that you select.

Makes it easier to edit individual shows that you record on a DVD.

Thats an interesting reply Pat. But what if a vob was loaded into vrd and the start end points defined before adding to the joiner.

I would assume then there would be no missing frames. As with normal editing using multiple files, you would assume!

Pat as you say there are other ways to combine dvd vobs, into a large file.
