Attempting to load and convert TIVO file to MP4. First thirty minutes is black screen w/ no sound. Rest of file looks good. Other converted files look fine. Verified OK on TIVO.

Is the original file OK?
Perhaps I wasn't clear. The downloaded (transferred) file (via TIVO desktop) shows the first 30 minutes as black screen w/no sound when loaded by VideoRedo. After 30.00 minutes the balance of the video seems intact. This is before resaving as .mp4. Tried running Quickstream fix with no luck. Rechecked that the file on the TIVO still plays normally. Retried transfer with no change.

And on the TiVo itself the video is OK?

If you’re using pyTivo Desktop to download the file try enabling the decrypt option and downloading it once more. Then try playing the resulting file in VLC. If it's still black then it's something happening on the TiVo side and unfortunately there is nothing VideoReDo can do to fix it. If that file is OK then let me know and I'll investigate further.

Hi Dan 203. Thanks for the suggestion. All recorded Files DO still play normally on TIVO. Older (4 mo.) TIVO files have no problem loading & running. Using latest available VideoRedo. Older versions of VideoRedo ((Videoredo 5) have similar problem.) Am also finding that VideoRedo will not load some recent video files from TIVO after downloading with Tivo Desktop) mostly recent files (last couple of months). I get "Unable to open file" message from VideoRedo. Suspecting that something has been changing with SOME very recent (1-2 mo. old) files from PBS station on TIVO as indicated by TIVO Desktop error messages (attempting to sell an updated TIVO media access password - price so far unknown).

As a workaround I tried downloading kmttg but had trouble installing Java on my WIN7 computer. Any recommended link to JAVA install instructions that work on WIN7 so i can run kmttg (or PyTIVO) would be appreciated? (Doesn't pyTIVO Desktop require JAVA also?)

pyTivo Desktop is self contained. It doesn’t require any extra installs.

I am also the developer of pyTivo desktop so if you have any trouble you can just ask me. Please give it a try and let me know if it changes anything.
