Error code vs stall

Unable to add the current video project to the joiner. It's characteristics to not match
existing joiner entries of 720 x 404 / 29.97 fps.

---
also 2nd error popup has the above plus
Current joiner project uses audio codec AAC and a sample rate 48000, Video being
added has an audio codec of AC2 and a sample rate 48000, Audio parameters must be the same when joining.

I understand that the video's had different characteristics and that is what caused the errors but VRD 4 gives me pop ups and stops whereas VRD 5 just stalls so you are not quite sure what is happening,

I also attached the VRD5 log just in case.

In v5 we added the ability to allow files with different audio and video parameters to be joined by recoding them. The video decoder and resizer is dynamic enough that it can switch on a frame by frame basis, and the whole audio output leg can dynamically switch codecs and sample rates.

Are you sure it actually stalled and wasn't just recoding?

I just joined a movie with 6ch to a commentary segment with 2ch and everything says the audio is 6ch.

BUT V5 display in thumbnails is yellow for the 6ch movie and blue for the joined (use to be 2ch) commentary.

I cut the joined blue commentary back off and loaded it into V5 and now it lists as 2ch.
So it does join the files but doe NOT recode the audio per V4,V5 and Mediainfo audio listing.

Don't know if this is good or bad but seems to play ok.
(there is a "no audio" area in the lead in to the 2ch segments)

If the audio is the same codec and supports mid stream channel changes, like AAC or AC3, then we leave it alone without recoding. If you want it to all be the same you can force a recode on the audio and set the channel count to the one you want. We have a built in Dolby pllx down converter for 6ch->2ch, for 2ch->6ch we just fill the missing channels with silence so you'll only hear left and right.

Thank you, that is good to know.
I had often wondered what happened when VRD created a 6ch from 2ch!

It stuck at 6% twice both times it was 279,839KB exactly. The first time I did abort fairly quickly - rechecked all and ran it again. The 2nd time it was hung for awhile. Task manager showed 0 cpu and a very small amount of memory use. Of the files - one was a different audio while another was a different resolution. 720 x 404 vs 704 x 480
and AC3 vs AAC and all were x265 mp4 files.
