Crashing when trying to save in almost any format other then what the original file is

#1
Like tile says just downloaded it today and in almost any format other then the original to the file it crashes right after I hit save with a error box saying VideoRedo has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program. I'm trying to edit and convert windows WTV captures on a OLD version of win 10 64 pro with a I7 4960x and 32 gig. V5 runs fine, no real issues on this box. The auto commercial marking now works properly and doesn't red out random spots after doing a batch scan with ad detective now though and the files work in v5 so I can do my commercial edits with 6 then use 5 to convert the files to whatever container I want. Is there a setting or something I'm missing? I'm also having trouble figure out how to pick the folder I want to save my captures to as it doesn't seem to have the same pick and go like the last version did.

Had a similar problem.
Nearly all containers crashed; I used wtv, which was ok.
Then Dan send me the version 791e to test, which converts between various containers without problem

Well I hope he sees this and sends me a copy too as it's irratating to get a new version to play with and it can't do the main thing it is designed to do. At least the ad detective files works fine with version 5 so it saves me some time having to manually double check and set the red commercial skip areas myself from the scene markers like I had to in v5 for some reason. I don't think they've posted e yet.

It appears to be fixed now and I just got home from work and am checking mail and news on my tablet. I'll wake up my beast later and give the new beta version a shot as I was running 791c.

Well, got new 792a version loaded and so far every profile I have tried works but saving to my preferred folder is a bit more convoluted, but I can still do it and everything is working so thanks. Now I guess you can work on the missing things and whatever new features you are trying to get working. HVEC doesn't seem to save any space but it played fine in VLC for me and I guess I'll have to play with all the formats to see if anything now saves more space then my old MKV settings from before. On easy formats with no massive reworking it's doing about 4500 FPS. My v5 could sometimes hit 8000 so maybe it's a work in progress still or I need to play with the encoder options it will allow on this box which appear to be software, Classic, and NVEnc depending on what codec I'm trying to use.

It crashed a couple of times trying to recode a big file to MPG2 but has done MOST files fine with the update. a couple of my captures have cuase a ring overflow error or something similar acording to the error box. I think V5 plays those same captures fine but when 6 tries it has to be restarted. I guess it's a bit more picky but I'd bet those issues will get sorted soon too.

Do you want to send us a sample that causes a crash?

Speed in V6 should be same or better than V5 unless you're doing transitions. Please check with the same file and let us know.

HVEC doesn't seem to save any space
HEVC should save you half the space of H.264. If it's not then a parameter isn't setup correctly either in our code or the output profile.

Well I've been trying files and formats to see what works best and what doesn't but it's doing great compared to 791 for me and using my normal favorite mkv settings it is doing the same file sizes for around 40 minutes of 720p video. I don't usually use mpg anymore because the files are bigger and Plex on my new Sheild or Roku Ultra 4k seem to usually play them smooth and clean. I think most of my wtv captures from wmc seem to crash about 80 or 90 percent in when using mpg 2 but I'll have to play with it. I may have missed or changed something in HEVC so if you have a recommended setting I can try it again and see what happens as I thought it should save a lot of space as well. There are so many options I'm sure it's easy to get something off trying everything out and not get the expected results.

If you're using an intelligent output mode and saving as HEVC, then edit your output profile and click on the advanced button. Then scroll down to quality factor you should see percentages of reduction of MPEG2>HEVC, H264 to HEVC, etc. Reduce those to get a smaller file size.

I did another recode last night of a 720p 40 minute video using the HEVC nvidea encoder with my 1070 gtx 8 gig card and it sped through going from wtv to mkv pretty fast and size was just short of 900 meg so a worthwhile savings provided the quality is still acceptable. I also tried the same file as a software encode and it was going super slow so I let it run and went to bed. I haven't checked today to see if it completed ok and if the size and quality are different. I keep filling up drives with my video captures so smaller with great quality is what I want when possible. I'll have to play with those advanced settings and see where the sweet spot is for me, thanks.
