Combine videos doesn't work?

I have a recording that's broken up into two pieces, as per the help file I just want to combine them and then save them. So when I select File / Open I select the first part and second part and click Ok and then I get a dialog "Combine / Join / Add To DVD" and I select Combine to make both videos one large editable file; there are no commercials to edit out so I just select File / Save Video As but the saved file only has the first part but not the second and it appears that they were never combined? Am I doing something wrong or is this a problem with the software?

Combine/Join...
I believe one is for h.264.mp4s and the other is for like MPG.mpgs.
(I want to say Join is for mp4s)

If the file video/audio specs in the two parts are not "exactly" the same they may not combine.

They are both mp4 files and they were output using the same software; I've tried both combine and join options and neither appears to work unless after I open them that I'm doing something wrong but all I want to to combine these two videos into one and when I use the join option the first piece is missing.

If you use the Join option it will open each file in the join “chain” in turn and if you do a file save at this point it will only save the last file in the chain.
Are you using the Join option on the menu bar? If you select “edit join file” you will see all the files in the chain and you can then use the “create... “ button to create a new file of all the displayed files joined together.

Thanks for that.

All these years and I've never tried to "join" two .mp4 files so did not know that happened!

I've always put pieces into the joiner list and then did the "create video from".

My comment was directed to the OP, not you.

Thanks, I had another instance of needing to join multiple files and your method seemed to work.
