Chapter.txt location

Running VRDTV H264 v4 build 595 on Win 7 Pro 64-bit.

Whenever I edit a TV show, version 4 auto saves the chapter.txt in the root directory instead of the source file directory as version 3 did.

I must be overlooking something but I can't find anywhere in the Options to indicate where I want the program to place the chapter.txt file.

Also are there any known problems with encoding mpg2 in v4?. I've not successfully transcoded to a DVD yet using VRDTV.

My last attempt was supposed to transcode a 6mb bit rate 6 gb file size with an output quality of 4.71 mb bit rate ended up at 0.64mb.

I've had others where VRDTV wanted to transcode to 5.91mb bit rate and the final vidoe was extremely blocky.

And then there's those files where VRD want to increase the bit rate to 6.17mb on a 6mb bit rate source file. But if I write to file instead of dvd, the resultant file is just over 4GB and didn't need recoding at all.

I've given up trying to recode in VRD. I just author to file and using either DVDShrink or DVD-Rebuilder & CCE Basic.

Yes, this will be fixed in the next build 596. 596 should be posted within a day or two.

Will check this out. This issue hasn't been previously reported.

For me autosaves of chapter marks occurs in video destination folder.

Manual save will occur in the source folder.

What are your chapter mark settings?

Ony place I can find for chapter mark settings is in the Option Menu - Chapter Marks.

Upper section [Chapter Marks], I have At Cut points and Scene markers checked. Min Interval = 1 sec

Mid section [Output format], Automatically Create checked.
File type = Text file
Output file = %F_Chapters.txt
Line format = %T
Time code = HH:MM:SS:ff

Bottom section - Import chapter marks on file open

I do not manually save the chapter marks file. It is saved when I save the Project (Vpr file).

The Vpr file saves in the source file directory. I do not output a finished file. I simply add the various projects to make DVD listing and then author DVD.

When I would use this same workflow in VRDTV version 3 - build 583, the chapter marks file was saved in the same location as the vpr file, e.g., the source file location.

Appreciate the help, Pat.

Not sure where the chapter .txt file is kept but today I edited a 1 hour .rec tv show and saved it as a .ts file.
My chapter profile is set as min chapter intervals 1 sec.
Use equal spacings 5 min
Only if no other chapter marks.
No other boxes are ticked
Tried playing file back on VLC and powerDVD and play back stops when you hit the chapter button

I looked at the code and the chapter file isn't saved with the VPRJ. Its only saved when you save the video or when you click on File>Save Chapter file.

Can you check again on when the chapter file is being created?

Dan,

Not a lot of new shows on TV with the Olympics, so don't have many to edit. Just tried two and can not repeat issue with Chapter text. Will try to keep a closer watch on future edits.

FWIW, this is the section of my logfile for the DVD created the last time, VRDTV v4 wrote the chapter text file in the root directory. Just in case something might catch your eye.

Dan,

I have been able to recreate the issue this morning.

Edited a 2 hour movie, removing commercials.
Did not save file.
Did not save project.
Did not add title to DVD list.
Went right to Create DVD.
Added graphic and modified text.
Then authored to DVD.

VRDTV v4 then did its fast copy. It was when it started muxing that it created a subfolder in the D:\ root for the temp [filename].DVD Just before that, it creates the chapter.txt file, also in the root.

Hopes this helps clarify the issue.

It is creating a chapter file in the destination folder.

Since you specified creating a DVD folder in the root of the drive, a chapter file is also created there.

I don't think this is a new issue, but has been around for a long, long time. I think it only happens when creating a DVD by clicking on "Create DVD" and you haven't added any titles to the DVD list.

Try clicking on "Add Title to DVD" and then clicking on "Create DVD". I believe that should not create a chapter file.

The other way to fix it is to uncheck the "Automatically Create a Chapter" on the Tools>Options>Chapter page.

Thanks Dan. I'll try those options.

Would be nice if in some future version we were given the choice of saving it with the source or destination file.
