autosave on exit doesnt work

I'm using V5 with kmttg, which I feel I need to note just in case this is related. I have autosave project file on exit set. KMTTG executes VRD and opens a project file, which I sometimes edit and then save. Upon exit, kmttg invokes VRD to cut the video file with the newly saved project file. If I don't actually go to file save, VRD is not automatically saving the project file on exit.

Don't quite understand. So kmttg is launching an instance of VRD that you manually interact with, but when you close it the project is not saved?

Can you try it without kmttg? Open VRD yourself, open a video, edit it, then just exit. Does it save the project?

OK I tried it without kmttg. Opened a video file, made edits, saved the project file. Closed VRD. Opened the project file back up, made more edits and exited VRD without saving. Seems its creating a new file with a _001.VPrj instead of autosaving to the same project file. Maybe this is by design, but is there a way to have it autosave to the same project file instead of adding _001 to it?

That is by design. There is currently no way to have it auto save over an existing file.

Also looking at the code that part is never called when VRD is launched via COM, which is what kmttg does, so it's probably not saving the edits at all when you do this via kmttg.

I can add these enhancements to my list, but no guarantees as to when they might get changed.

The option to have it autosave to the SAME file instead of creating a new file during autosave would be good. Obviously this is only saving a few mouseclicks, but still would be nice since autosave implies it'll save the already open file automatically on exit.

Was wondering it you could look into fixing this? Or possibly make it an option in the hidden options? That was users already used to it appending the _001 to the filename can continue, but there would be an option to save the project file as the original filename it was opened as...

So its almost a year since I requested this be fixed. I've been patiently waiting and checking each release's notes to see this was something that was fixed. I realize it isnt a high priority but it is also not a hard thing to fix. "Autosave" is something, in every other program, will automatically save over the same filename instead of creating a new filename. Please correct this in VideoReDo. Or give the option fot autosave on exit to save as the same project filename or create a new filename...

"Fixed" is the wrong word since this isn't something that we think requires fixing. Sorry, but I'm not understanding the request. If you load a project, why can't you simply save it before exiting? Off hand, I don't really like the idea of software overwriting existing files without explicit user interaction. Can't you grab our auto-save file yourself?

I use kmttg, so it automatically looks for the same project file it opens up. Yes, I can absolutely save before exiting, but thats not the point. Every other piece of software, when offering the user an "auto-save" option, overwrites the existing file when autosaving EXCEPT this software. Generally, if a user is opting to auto-save on exit, they want the original filename, not a new one. Or at the very least, give an additional option when auto-save on exit is selected on whether to overwrite the original project file or create a new one.
