Audio stream suppressed after edit point

Hi

I'm editing an h.264 movie in a TS container to remove the commercial breaks and store it in an MP4 container, so most of the file is a straight copy with just the frames around the edit points being re-rendered.

The first edit point is fine but for the subsequent ones, the audio stream is being suppressed, it's not muted just very quiet and in particular any talking is virtually impossible to hear.

I've tried playback in VLC, WMP12 and the W10 app and all have the same problem, disabling and re-enabling the audio stream corrects the problem but is of course no good for normal playback of the film.

I've even tried splitting the file into segments and then joining them back together, the audio for each segment plays fine but when joined it's supressed again.

I've had a look at the logs and there is nothing being flagged as an error at the cut points.

Any ideas?

What is the source audio format? AAC? or AC3? Are you recoding the audio on output?

Hi

It's AAC, I've just noticed that it is at least 5.0, I was expecting it to be stereo, so I think this may be the problem.

I am only re-encoding at cut points. I'm not doing anything special so I would expect both the audio and video to be re-encoded at that point.

I'm using the standard h.264 MP4 profile which if I am reading it right down mixes the audio to stereo

OK a bit confused. VR is reporting the video as stereo but VLC is saying it's 3F2R which I assume 5.0 or 5.1

There may have been an error in the header that was presenting the audio incorrectly. Forcing the profile to 5.1 makes it so the output header is correct.
