Hi folks, been using VRD TV Suite 3 for a while on a Win XP machine, recently bought a new PC and attempted to move VRD to the new machine, which runs Win 7 HP 32 bit. Every time I try and run it, the app crashes on launch. Downloaded latest trial versions of all 3 apps from videoredo.net, same problem with each. Details of crash follow:-

Problem signature:

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers.

Try uninstalling all version. Disable your antivirus software and try installing again. We've seen some weird issues in the past with AV software deleting or modifying crucial DLLs because it thinks VideoReDo is a virus. If that works then you'll need to go into your AV software and add an exception to make it ignore the VideoReDo install directory. (most AV programs have a way to do this, but it's different in each)

You should try the latest beta anyway. It's got a lot of fixes that aren't in the latest release build. So using it might help stave off other potential issues.

Not much progress today.

Uninstalled all flavours of VRD, disabled MSE then installed VRD-TVSv3 beta 3.20.2.616.

Still appcrash on launch - in fact I get two windows pop up with the 'videoredo.exe has stopped working....' message

Right clicked on desktop icon and selected Win XP SP2 compatibility mode, ticked 'run as administrator' checkbox.

Still crashes :-/

That is really weird. VRD doesn't do anything fancy at start up, it just displays the dialog. No real processing happens until you open a file.

We use Windows 7 here, so I know that's not the problem. And the audio and video drivers VRD uses aren't loaded until you open a file, so that can't be the problem either. This has to be a bad install, a conflicting application or a corrupt registry key.

You already uninstalled and reinstalled which should have taken care of deleting everything, but let's try one more time and verify.

First run the uninstall. Then check C:\Program Files\ and make sure all VideoReDo folders are gone. Next check C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming and make sure the VideoReDo folders are gone from there as well. Next run regedit and delete the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DRD Systems. Once that's done reboot your PC. Disable your AV software and reinstall VideoReDo. When it gets to the end of the install make sure you have the Launch Now box checked and allow it to launch.

If it still crashes after doing all that then I'm not sure what else you can do other then reinstall Windows. If this were a problem with VRD we would have heard about it by now. You're the first person I've ever seen with this specific problem.

OK, took all of those steps, still the same.

Used system restore to wind back the configuration a couple of months, re-installed VRD, no change.

Presumably there's something specific about my configuration VRD doesn't like. Oh well, the XP machine is still working so I'll go back to that, and try tinkering with the Win 7 machine at my leisure.

Thanks for you help anyway.

Further information

Hi, I am also experiencing the same problems as the original poster to this thread.
System is:
Win 7 SP1
Super AntiSpyware and NOD32 plus W7 firewall
VRTVS Ver 4.20.7.629

Program has performed well for ages and then started having hung sessions when a corrupted VOB TS file was encountered. I finally uninstalled all traces of the program and reinstalled the latest version, confirmmed all the configuration settions and it worked well for a while.

I've just started the program again and now it starts up, has the w7 whirly thing happening, but when I open the "File" button and select a file the system crashes with the message to close the program.

Details are:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: VideoReDo4.exe
Application Version: 4.20.7.629
Application Timestamp: 4ec2fb84
Fault Module Name: MSVCR80.dll

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Sean

I forgot to mention, the file I'm trying to open is a TS file.

After you start VRD, try dragging a file into it rather than using the file explorer.

I have added to this thread as my problem also involves some instability of TVSuite V3 under Win 7 (64 bit in my case).

It mostly works OK, but occasionally will crash either on opening or later on. If I have done some editing and it crashes, when I reopen the program I sometimes get a save of my edits and other times I have to start again.

I also have V4, really only using it for occasional conversions (such as mkv to mpg) as I am happy with V3, and I have just used it after a V3 crash, only to find it seemingly impossible to set mpg as the default output format. V4 wants to use ts, the first-named format. Where is the setting, if there is one?

Click on the menu: Tools>Options>General parameters and set Default file save format

Thanks, Pat.

Specific formats aren't given in V4, but I suppose 'Last used profile' works if one has previously set the desired output format manually.

V3 does provide options.

Strange that the two versions differ in this way.
